What do you think about all the Libya war propaganda?

I keep reading articles saying that gaddafi is planning to escape libya and so on, but where is the proof, they can't even prove he ordered those mass rapes the media kept talking about, I thought propaganda like this was only in dictatorships, but it seems even in the land of the free, we are free to be lied to at will by our leaders and a voluntary media.
